(Probably forgetting something, but it's way too early to be thinking.) That's what I heard as "interesting new stuff" from just checking out the official videos and articles/posts about it.The latest update to Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier includes a new mechanic for players to utilize. Since I ignore those people anyway, I barely heard anything about first person view outside of some posts on this reddit, I expected the new stuff that'd excite people to be terrain tools and different foundations for different buildings (actual "game changing" feature), new career, registering as self-employed, fame, another new career (I think there's Style Influencer and Actor as new careers, right?), new neighborhood (okay, kind of eh on that one), and a bunch of new B/B and CAS stuff. The hype train isn't on the Maxis people, it's on the YouTubers and other "influencers" who hype things up so they keep getting free stuff, invites to events, and views on their channels (which translates to money). They'll make videos happily playing it to show off how awesome it is while trying to be careful not to break things. They'll tell you that a new game or expansion is amazing and awesome and you should not just buy it, you should preorder it. They will tell you that the next things for whatever EA game they represent is the next big thing. It's the "Game Changers." If you wonder why certain people are "Game Changers," that's why.

"They" in this case aren't the Maxis devs or even the CM. Hopefully we can push some fixes in before the next patch. Meanwhile Greg ended up putting way more work than was scheduled so ya, you can do a lot more than simply place the camera on the Sim's face - buuuuut it looks like a bug is occurring on people's machines that we hadn't seen in our tests. In retrospect since we can't temper player's speculation, I'd suggest we just don't allow teasing of similar features next time. I tried to mitigate the hype before the livestream but it is what it is. And honestly, they were genuine in their beliefs - and I'd expect about that same ratio in the general public: 1-5% really REALLY love first person camera.

People at Simscamp teased it before release and of the 50+ attendees, a few were really excited about it. And that's precisely how we the developers billed it - a "small and fun feature". You're absolutely correct - it IS just a small feature that one developer (Greg!) did, mostly in his spare time.
